AIFORS

ERA Chair in Artificial Intelligence for Robotics

AIFORS is a Horizon 2020 ERA Chair project which aims to create an ERA Chair in Artificial Intelligence for Robotics at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (UNIZG-FER). It will enable UNIZG-FER to attract an outstanding researcher and five team members to independently implement an ambitious research strategy in AI for robotics. This will open UNIZG-FER to a new research direction with a high potential for research outputs and technology innovation. The ERA Chair holder will establish and lead a Research Group for Artificial Intelligence for Robotics assigned to the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics (LAMOR).

1st ROScon HR 2026 held at FER

ROSCon HR 2026, the first Croatian ROSCon conference, was held on March 30, 2026, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), University of Zagreb. The event was co-organized by the AIFORS project in collaboration with the Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF). The full-day conference brought together ROS users and developers of all experience levels, from students and academic researchers to industry practitioners, and featured talks covering a wide range of topics including industrial navigation systems, autonomous driving, surgical robotics, mobile manipulation, and real-time control.

The AIFORS team had a strong involvement in organizing and attending the conference. Luka Petrović served as program chair and delivered the opening remarks program overview, while Mirjana Stjepanović and Marta Čolaković-Bencerić were members of the organizing committee. Several AIFORS researchers attended the conference, including Ivan Petrović, Ivan Marković, and Borna Paro.

The conference placed a strong emphasis on bridging academia and industry. Presentations from Croatian robotics companies such as Gideon, ROMB Technologies, Crobotic Solutions, Jungheinrich, Probotica, and Calirad showcased real-world deployments of autonomous systems. Academic talks from FER and FSB complemented the industry perspective with research on artificial intelligence for robotics and control systems. The conference concluded with a networking session, providing an excellent opportunity for participants from the Croatian ROS community to exchange ideas and establish new collaborations.
