Through AIFORS, the ERA Chair holder will contribute to the following R&I activity clusters, which are also in the interest of economic and service sectors of Croatian, listed in UNIZG-FER’s Development Strategy: (i) Health, (ii) Inclusive and Secure Society, (iii) Digital Industry, (iv) Climate, Energy and Mobility, (v) Food and Natural Resources. All the clusters contain areas of activities to which AI and robotics can contribute, i.e., through which the ERA Chair holder will, jointly with LAMOR, significantly boost UNIZG-FER R&I activities. Moreover, AIFORS will be part of a larger whole at UNIZG-FER; specifically, the ERA Chair holder will be member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the Centre of Research Excellence for Data Science and Advanced Cooperative Systems (DATACROSS, coordinated by LAMOR’ head, Ivan Petrović), that besides the host institution includes 12 other Croatian research and higher-education institutions. This will enable the ERA Chair holder to also collaborate with researchgroups at all the UNIZG-FER departments and DATACROSS partner institutions, thus further contributing to the whole R&I excellence of the UNIZG-FER and beyond.
Additionally, the ERA Chair holder will be embodied in a wider infrastructure and innovation ecosystem, including: Innovation Centre Nikola Tesla (ICENT) that focuses on applied research and development in the field of engineering and related applications, Zagreb Innovation Centre (ZICER) that offers start-up incubation and acceleration programmes, and University of Zagreb University Computing Centre (SRCE) which is the major national infrastructural ICT institution in the area of research and higher education in Croatia.
